CITIZENSHIPWORKS | JUSTICIA LAB

Online service that guides users safely through every step of the citizenship application start to finish.

Informs users if they may need help from an immigration expert.

Works with lawyers from over 200 non-profit organizations to help with the citizenship process if there is a problem with a client's application. Connects clients to free, live, online legal help or a local partner organization.

REFUGEE SERVICES | CIRA - CENTER FOR IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE ADVANCEMENT

Assists all refugees; provides programs for ESL, transportation, cultural orientation, and employment. Helps refugees learn to live and work in the United States.

Services include:

- Employment skills class

- Interpreters available to go with refugees to medical appointments or hospitals

- Coordinates health and human services, ESL classes, housing with OHA, citizenship, drivers' licenses and classes, etc.

ELDER REFUGEE PROGRAM | LUTHERAN SERVICES IN IOWA (LSI)

Provides services for Elderly Refugees at Lutheran Services in Iowa partners with individuals age 60 and older to foster community connections, improve their quality of life and work towards their goal of U.S. citizenships.

CITIZENSHIP CLASSES | DOMINICAN LITERACY CENTER

Assists women and men who are studying to take the naturalization test and to become informed and participative U.S. citizens.

Provides two 12-week semesters of group classes to provide explanation, reinforcement, and practice. Volunteers work individually with those who are scheduled to take their naturalization test.

Guides Latinx immigrants on how to obtain citizenship by working with them on studying and practicing in preparation to take the test. Will walk step by step with the student until they become citizens.

Remember for citizenship classes individuals must qualify first and this depends on how long they have had residency and how long ago it was obtained.

IMMIGRATION SERVICES | EAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS REFUGEE MUTUAL ASSISTANCE CENTER

Educates and supports refugee, asylee, and immigrant families and helps them transition to a new culture. Services include:

- Refugee/immigrant mutual support groups.

- Linkage with mainstream providers regarding the mental health needs of clientele and the barriers encountered by them. Mediations and education related to cultural differences are provided.

- One-on-one counseling at the Center, a neutral site, or in the homes of families in crisis.

- Basic immigration applications and immigration legal referrals.

- Cultural orientation counseling for refugee and other ORR eligible clients.

- Culturally appropriate workshops dealing with money, public benefits and health issues.

- Translation of documents and interpretation in community settings.

- Advocate and liaison in clients' places of employment, schools, hospitals, courts, with landlords, etc.

- Aid in completing paperwork for citizenship, residency, family reunification, etc.

- Assistance with applying for government benefits.

DMACC CENTER FOR CAREER AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT | DES MOINES AREA COMMUNITY COLLEGE (DMACC)

Services offered include:

ESL or English as a Second Language is a program for people who speak, read and write best in a language other than English and desire to improve their use of the English language. Entry-level English through college-prep English is available.

HiSET and High School Completion Center (testing and prep).

Adult Literacy program provides opportunities for adults in need of literacy skills and refresher basics in reading, writing and math. Adult Literacy classes are offered at various locations in and around Des Moines and in cooperation with local schools and organizations.

COLLEGE (core) classes for DMACC's associate degree programs and non credit classes for personal and professional development.

FOOD PANTRY AND ACTIVITIES FOR OLDER ADULTS | INTERCULTURAL SENIOR CENTER

Offering food pantry services for adults ages 50 and older, with options for home delivery or pick-up.

Social work services for adults ages 50 and older.

Educational and wellness programs consist of morning physical activity exercises (Tai-Chi and Zumba), basic English tutorials, literacy classes in Spanish, citizenship classes, computer classes, civic engagement, workshops on health and nutrition, self-esteem activities, health screenings, dance, arts and crafts, sewing, and field trips into the community.

INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES | ASIAN COMMUNITY & CULTURAL CENTER

Family Resource Program offers language skills, citizenship classes, translation and other assistance regarding INS documents, birth certificates, marriage certificates, high school and college diploma, educational transcripts, and health care services. Offers tax return filings to the community. Employment assistance to job seekers, and employment Bulletin Board information and referral services through bilingual radio program.

Parenting Kindly education to Asian parents.

Youth Leadership Program where youth meet every week to learn leadership skills, community and cultural involvement, and career development skills. Offers Asian Student scholarships - currently provides four (4) $500 scholarships to Asian graduating seniors from any Lincoln Public School.

Seniors Program provides weekly group education programs at the center providing health and behavioral health services to Asian elders.

Cultural education through sharing and presenting the Asian cultural information and activities in Lincoln/Lancaster County. Other cultural activities such as lectures, Tet festival, talks and a number of multi-cultural training sessions, Vietnamese and Chinese language classes, and cooking classes are organized at the Center for a wide variety of groups throughout the year. Cultural and resource orientation classes are offered to New Americans and refugees to educate and share cultural aspects that will help to the refugee community to understand and adjust to have a harmonious life.

Help consumers prepare electronic and paper applications for SNAP, unemployment, legal aid and resumes.
