BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT | LA LECHE LEAGUE OF ILLINOIS

Services include:

- Free meetings led by volunteer Leaders who are experienced with breastfeeding and are accredited by La Leche League International.

- Support between meetings for breastfeeding challenges, such as positioning and latch, being sure the baby is getting enough milk, soreness, pumping and milk storage, etc.

- Teaches parents about the ages and stages of breastfeeding.

- Creates a community of support by bringing breastfeeding families together.

BREASTFEEDING PEER COUNSELING PROGRAM | BLUE VALLEY COMMUNITY ACTION PARTNERSHIP

Provides education and support for pregnant and post-partum women to ensure a successful breastfeeding experience. Services based on the WIC Breastfeeding Model for Peer Counseling by utilizing peers to encourage and support mothers to breastfeed their infants via mother-to-mother support. Peer counselors are paid paraprofessionals with WIC.

BREASTFEEDING COALITION | QUAD CITIES BREASTFEEDING COALITION

Breastfeeding coalition assists women and their support persons to choose and continue breastfeeding as optimum infant nutrition. Provides support to the breastfeeding family, works to increase public awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding, and promotes accurate breastfeeding information and support to health professionals and the community.

Hosts conferences and arranges for breastfeeding tents at public events. Can refer to local direct support groups and providers.

BREASTFEEDING CLASS | MARY LANNING HEALTHCARE

Open to moms, dads and interested family members, this one-time, two-hour class discusses issues related to breast feeding. Topics include the advantages of breast feeding, proper latching on, milk production, breast care, nutrition and breast pumps. It is designed for mothers who are in or beyond their 6th month of pregnancy.

Provide infrastructure building and enabling services. Infrastructure building activities include partnerships with tobacco control community, connections with Quitline, health equity, distribute information on IA maternal mortality, referrals for prenatal care (medical/dental), partnering with breastfeeding community, linking persons to breastfeeding resources, provide information to persons interested in breastfeeding, work with community of importance of safe sleep, connect families with resources for cribs, education on importance of oral health during pregnancy and working with dental/medical provides.
