Empowers low income individuals and families in need with the ingredients to cook a Thanksgiving meal in their own home rather than eating at the Open Door Mission on Thanksgiving Day. This also includes extra groceries to help during the Holiday season when school is out. There will be only 1 Turkey 'N Fixins program per address.

For Thanksgiving 2024:

Beginning November 1st, community members can come to the Timberlake Outreach Center or the Council Bluffs Outreach Center (on the days they are open) and receive a turkey or a ham, along with some other traditional Thanksgiving specific foods as a part of their once a month shopping time. (Only one turkey or one ham per address.)

Program through Nov 27th. Individuals/families can receive Turkey N Fixin's Wednesday-Saturday at the Timberlake Outreach Center, and on Tuesdays only at the Council Bluffs Outreach Center. Individuals/families will need to have a current piece of mail with them when visiting either Outreach Center.

Offer Christmas Baskets. Sign-ups are Nov 6, 2024 to Dec 11, 2024. Baskets need to be picked up at the pantry either Dec 18th or Dec 23rd., 2024.

Coordinates Angel Tree for adults and children every year for the Christmas holiday. Come in to the food pantry to register from November 6, 2024, through December 11, 2024. Must be resident of the cities of Slater or Sheldahl.

For Christmas 2025:

Provides a child's toy and clothing of choice, hats and gloves and coat (if needed), food for the family, and other items.

As of Oct 17, 2025, individual applicants and/or those wishing to inquire on behalf of an individual/family who may benefit from the program may send a message through the Caring Cupboard's Facebook page or call and leave a message at (308) 928-2264.

Provides gifts to foster families by seeking donations or monetary donations used to purchase gifts, for children. Services include gift wrapping and delivering the gifts to the foster parents before Christmas day. Program may also provide gifts to adult residential clients. Will provide letter of thanks for donation for tax purposes.

Christmas assistance is available through the Angel Tree program, which provides a Christmas dinner food box and toys for children ages 0-12.

For the 2025 Angel Tree program, call to make an appointment after October 20th. Application appointments are made in the first 2 weeks of November.

Holiday Gift and Food Basket applications may be picked up at the SENCA office in Falls City or Humboldt, starting October 28th, 2024. No applications will be accepted after November 15th at 4 pm.

Holiday Adoption program.

For Christmas 2024, the deadline to apply is December 1st.

This program is especially designed to help families who are facing financial hardships and are unable to afford a Christmas dinner or new toys and warm clothing for their children. The Holiday Adoption Program hopes to address the needs of low-income children and families during the holidays and winter season.

Gifts and a food voucher are available to families with children ages 15 and younger and to seniors age 60+. Food vouchers are available for families with children ages 16+ and to adults without children.

Provides a Toys for Tots sign up during the holiday season. The program screens each applicant and checks with other organizations in the community to maximize the number of families helped during the holiday season and reduce the number of duplications.

Works in partnership with the US Marine Corp each year to offer the Toys for Tots program. Children must be age 12 or younger and reside in the household.

Four Mile and Pioneer Columbus Recreation Centers will help families sign up for 2024 Toys for Tots during the holiday season. Registration begins Nov. 1, 2024, and goes through Nov 30, 2024. Gift pick-ups are Mon Dec. 16, 2024, from 12 pm- 6 pm; Tue Dec. 17, 2024, from 3 pm-8 pm and Dec. 18, 2024, from 12 pm-6 pm at the center where families register.

To qualify:

If client has used this pantry's services for the last three months and resides in the Waukee School District and has recently provided a proof of residency and identification for each person in their household, they may already be qualified; please complete an online application. If this is the first time applying for assistance or client's information in WayPoint Resources system is not current, client must bring required documents to the WayPoint Resources office during food pantry hours within 10 days of submitting an application.

If client already applied at another agency:

If client has been approved or expects to be approved with another agency for their holiday program, client will be disqualified from this program. This includes, but is not limited to, West Des Moines Human Services, Toys for Tots, Shop with a Cop, Angel Tree Programs and other food or gift giveaway programs.

**Applicants are not qualified for the program until identification for each person, and proof of residency is confirmed.

Once approved, applicants will receive an email confirmation with pick up instructions, including date and time. If applicant has not received an email confirmation, please contact WayPoint Resources at [email protected] or (515) 987-5523. Please bring a photo ID in order to receive dinner boxes and gifts.

If client cannot make the assigned date and time for pick up, another family member or friend can pick up on their behalf. Please call and let WayPoint Resources know who has permission to pick up items, or make other arrangements. If client does not pick up items or make other arrangements for pick-up, their items will be given to families on the waiting list. Failure to pick up may disqualify client's family from future programs.

Provides gifts for those in need with children (newborn through 14 years) through the Toys for Tots program.

Registration for Christmas 2025 begins October 27 and ends November 30, 2025. Registration may be completed in-person at the HACAP office or may be completed online. You will need the following information to register: photo ID for head of household (the adult registering the children must also be the adult to pick up toys), proof of Date of Birth for each child (such as birth certificate from any country or child's medical record), and proof of Washington County residency (such as valid address on photo ID, lease, utility bill). Volunteers, community groups and local businesses donate materials, food, toys and skills for seasonal holiday projects for low-income families. Provides food packages and allowances to purchase clothes, shoes, coats, and household goods.

Projects vary annually and by county office. Community members may contact their county BVCA office for details about local holiday programs.

Offers Thanksgiving meal baskets.

Offers a free meal delivered to older adults, 60 years of age or older (homebound, lonely, or alone) on Thanksgiving Day. Meal consists of turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, green beans, roll, banana, and cookies.

2024 reservations accepted until November 21st. Callers must speak with someone to make a reservation; no voice messages will be accepted. Phone lines are open on weekdays from 9 am-12 pm and 1 pm-4 pm.

Meal deliver occurs on Thu morning, Nov 28. Applicant must be home to receive the meal, no meals will be left at the door. Volunteers prepare and deliver the meals following local regulations and CDC guidelines. Specific delivery times cannot be scheduled. Cannot feed families.
