TOBACCO USE PREVENTION AND CONTROL | IOWA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES

POSITIVE PRESSURE COALITION | BUFFALO COUNTY COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Community coalition aiming to aid communities in the coordination and integration of resources, and the use of evidence-based practices to reduce substance abuse. Focused on decreasing youth alcohol use and other substances by connecting parents with resources. Community meeting take place the fourth Tuesday of the month, at the Community Partners office.

The positive pressure coalition meeting meets the 3rd Tuesday of every other month at the public library at 12 pm.

ILLINOIS TOBACCO-FREE COMMUNITIES PROGRAM | EGYPTIAN PUBLIC AND MENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Provides tobacco cessation counseling and information to tobacco users who want to quit tobacco use, and tobacco cessation materials to individuals requesting information to give to a tobacco user. There is also a support group offered along with tobacco education.

HEALTH EDUCATION | ROCK ISLAND COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Health Education focused toward creating anti-smoking, anti-tobacco policy. Health Educator also works with high school students interested in policy change with regard to tobacco. Health Educator attends health fairs, community events, and meetings to promote all health department programs and initiatives.

NEBRASKA TOBACCO QUITLINE | NEBRASKA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES

Tobacco resources including free and confidential counseling available 24 hours a day.

Coaching is also available online. After enrolling in the program, participants will receive information about how to access Web Coach. The program offers e-learning tools, social support, and information about quitting. Participants can interact with other people trying to quit or with Quit Coaches.

A free QuitNow mobile app is also available.

DRUG FREE YOUTH IN TOUCH (DFYIT) AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION | CENTER FOR ALCOHOL AND DRUG SERVICES, INC.

Intermediate program which takes a firm, zero-tolerance stance against drugs and violence. Students receive discounts at businesses and admission into special events and retreats for making a commitment to be alcohol, tobacco, other drug, and violence free. Weekly meetings are held at numerous local junior high schools.

Offers a variety of additional substance abuse prevention services free to Scott County residents, including curriculum in the schools, drug-free workplace training, Esteem Team groups, etc.

HEALTH PROMOTION AND OUTREACH DIVISION | LINCOLN LANCASTER COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Assists individuals of all cultures to assume responsibility for their own health through education and outreach services. The Division responds to public information needs or issues related to health and safety, and works collaboratively with other community entities to formulate responses to issues which impact public health. Major program areas include:

Chronic Disease Prevention program promotes activities community-wide that encourage healthy living, embrace health screenings for early detection of disease, and encourage appropriate self-management of existing diseases. Additional effort is placed on reducing the high incidence of chronic diseases among racial/ethnic minorities and other vulnerable Lancaster County residents. Program activities include community education on topics such as reducing the incidence of childhood obesity, increasing physical activity, and developing healthy eating habits, diabetes prevention or control, learning to manage chronic health problems, and colorectal cancer awareness.

Injury Prevention and Safe Kids Lincoln-Lancaster County coordinate activities directed at reducing unintentional injuries and death. Priorities are established by the Injury Surveillance System and Safe Kids Lincoln-Lancaster County. Print material, videos and presentations are available on bike and pedestrian safety, fall prevention, child passenger safety/occupant restraints, and home safety. Monthly community-wide car seat check events are offered at no charge. Visit www.safekidslincoln.org for a schedule of events and call to make an appointment.

Tobacco Prevention and Control provides tobacco prevention information/education to schools, businesses and the community, and cessation referrals.

WELLNESS AND HEALTH PROMOTION | CHAMPAIGN-URBANA PUBLIC HEALTH DISTRICT

Provides a variety of education programs to better the health of the community. Many of these programs are funded through grants, and are offered at little or no cost to the residents.

-- Sexual Health Education: Provides Making Proud Choices! (CUPHD's age-appropriate, comprehensive sex education programming) and sexual health resources
